Revolutionizing Indian Men's Fashion: The Story of Louis Stitch
In India, fashion for men has often been limited to
traditional styles and colors.
Unlike the international market where men's fashion products
are diverse and innovative, the choices for Indian men have been somewhat
constrained. One man decided to challenge this notion and bring a wave of
change.
This is the story of Louis Stitch, a brand that is
redefining men's fashion in India.
Amol Goel, an alumnus of IIM Calcutta, founded Louis Stitch
in November 2019. He aimed to break free from the conventional and mundane
offerings in men's fashion.
Especially focusing on men's leather footwear, Goel realized
that there was a lack of variety and innovation in this segment. Traditional brands
mostly stuck to black, brown, or tan shoes, hardly exploring designs or colors.
The primary objective of Louis Stitch was to infuse a sense
of luxury and premium quality into Indian men's fashion. Goel and his team
brought together skilled artisans and shoemakers who were passionate about
their craft.
This collaboration led to the introduction of a stunning
range of men's footwear, boasting over 11 colors and numerous designs.
The brand started to compete with select international names
while keeping the Indian essence intact.
Louis Stitch's efforts were recognized when they secured Rs
5 crore in a pre-Series A funding round from Space World Group, a conglomerate
with interests in various sectors. This injection of funds marked a significant
step towards the brand's growth and expansion.
Goel's vision goes beyond just footwear. With the fresh
capital, Louis Stitch plans to diversify its product portfolio in the men's
wear category.
The brand is all set to establish its presence across major
Indian cities and metros. Louis Stitch is also gearing up to launch its
first-ever brand outlet, offering a comprehensive range of apparel,
accessories, and footwear designed for Indian men with aspirations for luxury
fashion.
The COVID-19 pandemic posed unforeseen challenges, but Louis
Stitch's commitment to quality and innovation allowed it to weather the storm.
The brand, which initially started with formal and
semi-formal footwear, expanded into accessories like wallets, ties, belts, and
socks. In May 2023, the brand took a leap into the apparel segment, introducing
formal shirts and polo t-shirts, which received positive responses from
customers.
Louis Stitch sources its premium materials from countries
like Argentina, Germany, and Egypt. The brand's distribution center in Gurugram
plays a pivotal role in fulfilling customer orders, averaging around 35,000
orders per month.
Louis Stitch's presence extends across online platforms like
Myntra, Flipkart, Amazon, Nykaa Fashion, and Ajio. The brand's success is evident
through its growing customer base, generating a gross revenue of Rs 45 crore in
FY23.
As the Indian men's apparel ecommerce market continues to
flourish, Louis Stitch aims to stand at the forefront of this growth. With
plans to introduce a robust apparel range and unique designs in the pipeline,
the brand is set to make waves.
The launch of exclusive laptop bags and premium casual
footwear demonstrates Louis Stitch's commitment to innovation and quality.
Louis Stitch's competition isn't just local; it competes
with global luxury players in terms of quality and craftsmanship. The brand
envisions itself as a go-to destination for Indian men seeking premium luxury
fashion without breaking the bank.
Amol Goel's journey with Louis Stitch showcases how one
person's vision can redefine an entire industry. Through innovation,
dedication, and a commitment to quality, Louis Stitch is proving that Indian
men's fashion can be as diverse and exciting as anywhere else in the world.
