In 2015, the dynamic father-son duo, Ashok Shastry and Rahm Shastry, embarked on a journey to revolutionize the private driver service industry with DriveU. 

Their vision was to infuse technology, transparency, and efficiency into an otherwise conventional domain, offering an on-demand and cost-effective private driver experience.


"Our motivation came from recognizing the enormous potential to enhance both the customer and driver experience through technology. We aimed to bring transparency, safety, uniformity, and scalability to the industry," explains Ashok.


From these aspirations, DriveU was born, setting out to provide not only private drivers but also a range of additional services that meet various car ownership needs. 

In 2021, the DriveU super app was introduced, expanding their offerings to include services like doorstep car wash, car servicing, FASTag recharge, and insurance renewals.


Operating in major Indian cities like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and others, DriveU boasts over 65,000 background-verified drivers. 

The year 2023 marked a pivotal point as the company achieved impressive growth, doubling its expansion efforts and securing multiple rounds of funding.


Now, the Bangalore-based startup is gearing up for a new phase by launching DriveU+, a premium driver service offering experienced and verified drivers. 

The goal is to expand and penetrate the market further, striving for rapid growth in both car ownership services and their core driver service product.


Ashok's ambitions extend beyond organic growth, seeking to raise $10 million through equity and debt to fuel exponential expansion and product development. 

Despite being EBITDA+ and cashflow breakeven, DriveU's focus remains on geographical expansion and deepening their impact within the cities they operate.


DriveU's success story rests on its ability to cater to both B2C and B2B customers. Their primary offering involves temporary drivers available on an hourly or daily basis. 

For businesses, DriveU's on-demand drivers have become a viable alternative to fixed drivers, eliminating the associated fixed costs.


Furthermore, DriveU has ventured into valet parking services, collaborating with premium pubs in Bengaluru and Hyderabad to promote responsible consumption through branded materials and special offers. 

With DriveU's robust tech-stack, drivers undergo thorough background verification, ensuring a safe and efficient experience for both customers and drivers.


The startup's comprehensive services encompass features such as trip insurance to cover minor damages, 24x7 driver service, and live customer support. 

DriveU's user-friendly app grants B2C users the ability to earn rewards that can be redeemed for services like car wash, servicing, and insurance renewals.


DriveU's impact is tangible, with over five million trips completed to date. The company boasts 650,000 direct customers and collaborates with 150+ businesses across various services on its platform. 

The platform's growth continues, with over 250K monthly active users and more than two million app installs.


Unitus Ventures played a crucial role in DriveU's journey, infusing nearly $3 million in funding over the years. 

The startup's investors recognize its unique value proposition: delivering convenience, efficiency, and reliability to an evolving urban mobility landscape.


With a market opportunity driven by India's staggering number of vehicles and a preference for road travel, DriveU's ambition to expand its market share is palpable. 

As the startup continues to innovate, introducing services like DriveU Plus, DriveU EV, and DriveU daily, it's poised to cement its position as the UrbanCompany for car ownership. 

DriveU's journey is one of transformation, leveraging technology to redefine private driver services and cater to evolving customer needs.
